Governor Jerry Brown has vetoed a measure that would have protected some illegal immigrants from federal status checks. Brown vetoed the measure dubbed the “anti-Arizona” bill. It would have stopped local authorities from honoring so-called detention “holds” on illegal immigrants unless those people had been charged or convicted of a violent or serious felony. Brown said in his veto message that the bill had exempted people who had committed crimes such as drug trafficking, child abuse and selling weapons.
