The A’s captured their first AL West title since 2006 by crushing the Rangers, 12–5. Oakland trailed Texas by 13 games on June 30th, but went an MLB-best 57-and-26 since. The A’s will face the Tigers in the ALDS, while the Rangers will host the Orioles in the AL Wild Card Game.
Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera became the first Triple Crown winner in 45 years last night. Cabrera finished the regular season with an American League-leading .330 batting average, 44 home runs and 139 runs batted in.
