Mother Arrested for Child Truancy

A Hanford woman found out the hard way that keeping her children out of school has serious consequences. Lorrainne Cuevas, 34, was sentenced in a Kings County courtroom to 180 days in jail after pleading guilty to violating the state’s chronic truancy law. In 2008, 218 truancy cases were brought before a judge in Visalia alone. But Cuevas is one of just a handful of parents in the state to serve jail time for breaking the truancy law.
