Visalia man who accidentally shot himself will live

A Visalia man who accidentally shot himself in the chest will survive, Visalia Police say. The 22-year-old was working on a .22 caliber rifle and although parts had been removed, the barrel, trigger mechanism and bolt were still intact at the time, police spokeswoman Sgt. Amy Watkins. His name was not released. Although the man shot himself squarely in the chest and required surgery at Kaweah Delta Medical Center, his life was not in danger, Watkins said. The incident, which occurred in the 800 block of South Locust Street just before 7 a.m. Wednesday, is being described as an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound, she added.
