Unemployed workers in the San Joaquin Valley may be getting some help. The Employment Development Department is awarding a two-point-five million dollar grant to the six counties hit hard by the recession. Laid-off workers in Stanislaus, Fresno, Kings, Kern, Inyo and Mono counties may be eligible to receive job re-training and other services. The average unemployment rate in the valley is nearly 15-percent.
