Milk Pricing System

After months of lob­by­ing to change California’s milk-pricing sys­tem, James Netto seemed to sum up the feel­ings of many of the more than 250 dairy oper­a­tors who gath­ered for a meet­ing dur­ing last week’s 2013 World Ag Expo sayig “We’re no bet­ter off. We’re prob­a­bly worse than we were eight months ago. Most states fol­low what’s called the fed­eral mar­ket order, but Cal­i­for­nia is one of the few that doesn’t. Instead, the prices here are set every month by the head of the Cal­i­for­nia Depart­ment of Food and Agriculture.
